About Matt King
The right teacher can change how you feel about playing.
That happened to me. It is the reason MRK Music exists.
My route to teaching
I started playing at ten and kept going.
My first lessons were at school. As I improved, I realised I had not yet found a teacher I connected with. After a few false starts, I met the tutor who helped me discover how much the guitar could mean to me.
That interest took me through formal music education and eventually to a BA (Hons) in Professional Musicianship at BIMM Brighton. I began on classical guitar, quickly found electric guitar and spent much of my university gigging years playing acoustic fingerstyle too.
After moving from the UK to Spain, teaching became a familiar place to begin again. Eight years later, the part I still value most is watching someone become more confident in their own playing.
How I think about teaching
Your progress comes first.
I care about whether you enjoy what you are learning.
If something does not suit you, we adapt it.
If I am not the right teacher, I will help you find someone who is.
What success looks like
Confident. Independent. Excited to play.
I do not want to build a list of songs you can only play because we worked through them together. I want to give you the technique, understanding and listening skills to keep learning without me.
The best result is not that you stay in lessons forever. It is that playing becomes part of who you are.
That you stop saying, “I am learning guitar,” and start saying, “I am a guitarist.”
Let us talk about your guitar.
